Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite Tested Tough

Draw-Tite's Tested Tough program provides testing standards far superior to those outlined by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), the go-to source for engineering professionals.

Each Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver undergoes extensive fatigue testing and static testing with the ball mount that is either supplied or recommended for use with that particular hitch, thus ensuring results that are applicable to real life use. Fatigue testing is also conducted on hitches rated for use with weight-distribution systems.

In addition, Draw-Tite performs static testing on a simulated automobile, as opposed to the rigid fixture used for SAE testing, resulting in a more true-to-life scenario.

Service from etrailer was flawless hitch came very fast. Installation was easy and fit was perfect. This hidden hitch is just that it looks great on my 4 Runner

by:

Had my Hidden Hitch for a year now. I had to upgrade the electrical connection. The provided cheap hitch pin is worthless to me. Why anyone would want a pin without a lock is beyond me. I paid an auto service to install the hitch but it certainly isn't hidden. Paint chips easily and shows rust but operates fine. At some point, I will probably have to repaint the hitch.

by:

The Hidden Hitch I ordered for my 2005 Toyota 4Runner works and looks great! I feel much more comfortable towing my 4000 lb travel trailer with the new hitch versus the factory hitch. Very fast shiping by e-trailer. I will be ordering again. Thanks!

by:

Great product, easy to install. I would highly recommend ordering from etrailer! They provided great service and the hitch arrived ahead of schedule. Excellent experience.

by:

What a job! Highly recommend going to a garage and having someone use an air wrench to remove all the required bolts (mine were in very solid). If it wasn't for that it would have been a much easier install. Looks great and a solid product too! Delivery of product was fast and convenient.

by:

Fast service and good prices.Good product. Great reputation. Enclosed instructions were bad and not detailed. some information was incorrect.

by:

shipped an HOUR after I ordered it! i didn't know that was possible. haven't put it on yet but it's the right product. Great customer service which is so important and so hard to find.

very impressed.

by:

Ordered and shipped the same day. Recieved order less than two days after order executed. Installed in roughly (1) hour. Impact tools make installation faster. Great price. Great product. Easy installation.

by:

I bought it for a 2006 4Runner. It went on pretty easy after getting everything setup for it. The hardest part was getting the nuts with the reinforced plate on it into the frame and lined up. After that it went pretty fast. Took longer than the 50 minutes it said is average but not too much longer

by:

Price is great, delivery on time, love the installation videos!

by:

Ordered this to add WD to my 2007 4runner. Easy to install. The majority of the work is removing the rear panel over the bumper. You have to get all the screws all the way to the wheel-wells before your done.
For the bolt holes take your time and clean them with wd40 and a round wire brush to get the rust out. All went fine except for one of the smallest holes where I snapped the bolt and had to drill out the screw.
Towed my Roo183 home with it yesterday with no issues.

by:

I appreciate all of the videos as this helps tremendously with the installation. Everything with the product was well done and am very happy with the results and the ease of installation. THere was only one bolt with the lug nut that could not fit so I had to get a longer bolt. This was the one in the center of the hitch. Other than that it was perfect.

by:

The hitch was somewhat simple to install. You will probably need to head to a garage and have them remove the tow hook, or have a breaker bar handy. This is not the hitchs' issue, but the vehicle. lol The hitch seems solid and looks great.

by:

Bad Installation InstructionsInstruction were 80% inaccurate. It advised that the facia needed t be removed. this was accurate. There are 12 fasteners to do this, you really need to search for them and the facial does need to be removed. There are two bolts and nuts that need to be installed with a special device (supplied). The instructions show this being fed through a cutout on the rear frame cross member from the spare tire side. Nope.. it is on the rear facing front, another reason the facia needs to come off and stay off until the hitch is fully mounted. To be fair, the most difficult part was finding the facia fasteners and removing them. Good luck, have fun. It did save me $300 though.
Delivery was fast.

by:

Arrived as described for '08 4runner . No removal of bumper is necessary. Does require 2 plastic support brackets be cut, but that was easy. Hardest part is getting the screw over the tailpipe. It was a good excuse to reroute the exhaust out the side to reduce any sulfur smell coming in the rear window when down. As others noted, removal of existing tow hook can be tough.

by:

Excellent service. FREAKY FAST!!! Thank You Etrailer. The product came as describe and I install it myself, it took me more than an hour but of course I'm not a mechanic, I have no problem with it. Looks great on my GX470.

I recommend and appreciate etrailer and staff for your service.

BTW, before you install it. Watch the video on youtube how to install hitch to GX470/4runner.

by:

Looks great when installed. The guys on the video make it look easy, so the actual install took longer than I expected. The two most difficult steps for this installation were: 1) removing the tow hook; this required a breaker bar to get enough torque to loosen the factory installed bolts; and 2) aligning the bolt patten so the small bolt above the exhaust pipe could be tightened. Overall not too bad. Impressive shipping time and communication from the folks at etrailer.com.

by:

Hitch arrived quickly. One of the electrical mounting ears was bent but was easily bent back into shape. The hardest part of the install was removing the facia from rear of 4Runner. When I removed the existing weight hitch one of the weld nuts broke inside the impact bar and I had to get the head of the bolt cut off with a cutting torch and then fish the inside part of the bolt and the weld nut out through one of the large holes. This was Toyota's fault, not a problem with the hitch. Holes all lined up good and the actual install was quick. My wife easily held up one side while I put in one bolt on the other side then I was able to put in the remaining bolts by myself no problem. Kind of hard to install the small mounting bolt on the passenger side and could not get the torque wrench on that bolt at all due to muffler being right next to the bolt. Just guessed at how much to tighten it. The trimming of the facia was more than what was shown in the instructions. I had to trim the entire tab below the mounting hole. Looks good on the vehicle!

by:

The trailer hitch is very well bilt but the paint quality is OK.. I had to bend the trailer wiring bracket into the correct spot and then repaint it as it was slightly tweaked and wouldn't allow full engagement of the trailer plug. You must put the rear bumper lower cover bolts in before raising the hitch into the final location as they are blocked by the beefy cross bar. Looks good, instructions are OK, definitly remove the bumper cover to install the extra bolts that this and the other 6000lb rated hitch need. You wont have to deal with this if you buy the Curtis 5000lb hitch but I want to use a motorcycle rack on the back of my 4runner and therefore wanted the extra tounge weight capacity. Price is good and the quality is decent I just don't expect the paint to look to good in 5 years with the salt and sand they spread on the roads in New England.

by:

Excellent for my 4 runner. Had to crowbar against frame a little to get bolts in straight, but excellent product. Good instructions, tows great, solid.

by:

Product is as described. As with any hitch everything is out of whack and takes a little man power to install. Wish the trailer plug had some type of cover.

Toyota 4Runner Read carefully "This requires the rear fascia to be removed and reinstalled." is in the directions. I have a friend that knows how to install them so wasn't necessary.

works great on my 2009 4Runner - great upgrade from the stock, bumper mounted hitch. Installation required some force because the hitch arrived slightly twisted, once I realized this, it was easy to pry into place with a short piece of scrap wood. The trailer wire harness plug does not fit in the bracket meant for it. I was able to attach the plug effectively with zip ties.

by:

Solid product. Fit nicely on my 2004 GX470. Watch the instruction video to get familiar with the steps and tools needed. I used the jack and 2x4 to get the drivers side M8 bolt alignedto the hole.

Package arrived slightly bent the electrical bracket. Bent back with a few hammer taps

by:

The receiver is installed & works fine, but it arrived bent (.5 inch on one side alone) & needed a good amount of straightening to get aligned. Very frustrating trying to install on 2008 4runner - I know it's not etrailers fault.

Directions are OK, video is for a Lexus & is similar but not the same - I would think with so many 4runners they could make a video for that specific vehicle.

Example: how to install assay bolts (never seen these before) not very clear -I found better info on [online]. On the 4runner I had to remove the whole rear bumper to remove the OE hitch. Live & learn.

Tip: If you plan on using the Curt Echo Blue-tooth brake controller, the driver-side tow-hook will make it a very tight fit to plug into the 7-pin.

I towed a 2012 Trailmanor 2720 (3000 lbs approx) for 250 miles with no problem, so far so good.

It sounds like that the side brackets were knocked out of alignment which is why the bolt holes are not lining up. This can happen while in transit to our facility or to you. We do have a great FAQ that provides ways to move the brackets back into alignment so the hitch can be installed. I appreciate the additional feedback with regard to the Curt Echo installation and usage.

by:

Delivered on time, no missing parts, good instructions. Installation was relatively uneventful, especially doing it by myself, only took a few hours. After one year of several camping trips and twice checking the bolt tightness the hitch has not fallen off the good old 2008 4Runner! I recommend this hitch if it fits your vehicle and you do your homework prior to installation, like prepping the vehicle and watching videos of prior installations.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2004 Toyota 4Runner that is Compatible with Weight Distribution
You have a hitch that should not be used with the Andersen weight distribution they are installing on your trailer currently. Best option we have would be to replace it with a hitch like the Draw Tite part # 75155 which is rated for use with a weight distribution system. WD system put a different type of strain on the vehicle frame and hitch. If the hitch was not designed for this additional strain it most likely will bend or brake which could then damage the vehicle frame.
